Almasi Art Agency
attends ‘Old Master Auction’
at Sotheby’s London

A CLOSE INTERACTION WITH GLOBAL ART AUCTIONS
The best pieces are the legacy of their creators. They stand the test of time and resonate over countless generations. At the Sotheby’s London art gallery and Auction House on Bond Street, many of these timeless pieces are on show.
Located in London’s Mayfair District, Sotheby’s was founded by Samuel Baker in 1744 and only moved to their new location on Bond Street in 1917 – a rich and storied heritage.
Sotheby’s is the oldest and largest internationally recognised firm of fine art auctioneers in the world. It has a global network of 80 offices and the company’s annual worldwide sales turnover is currently in excess of US$7 billion
Almasi Art Agency was present for Sotheby’s last auction which focused on Old Master and 19th Century Paintings where 81% of the 31 lots available were sold, a healthy figure for an Old Master sale.
In the auction, Florentine Renaissance painter Lorenzo Di Credi’s full-length depiction of Saint Quirinus of Neuss sold for £2.2m (£2.7m with fees), against an estimate of £2m to £3m, the top lot of the sale.
This was just one in a myriad of auctions that Sotheby’s undertake. From fine art, luxury items, to sports memorabilia and real estate, the most famous auction house in the world has been a go between clients and their dream acquisitions. African art auctions are also part of the offering.
In the midst of all the paddle-raising, bidding and the famous sound of the hammer, most intriguing, on the day, was the display of a personal collection that included many famous names from various artistic periods and diverse executions.
Impressionistic Renoirs and Boudins, post-impressionist Van Gogh and Matisse sketches, cubist Picasso drawings, the sculptures of Man Ray, this collection had not only the range, but a depth in various art movements that encapsulated time periods in a magnificent manner.
“Jetee De Roses – Fragment” by French impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir
At the core of it all, AAA attended the Sotheby’s Auction to establish the intricacies behind the process of identification, procurement and subsequent sale of unique and high-value art pieces as this is one of the main methods of selling artwork.
“Power”, an evocative sculpture by American artist Man Ray
Almasi Art Agency takes a keen interest in sector undertakings such as, but not limited to exhibitions, fairs and auctions. It was an eye opener visiting a historical auction house in Sotheby’s and look to continue interacting with such spaces and events in the future.
