Biography
James KamandeJames is a visual artist and an urban storyteller, born 1992, he lives and has worked at his home studio in
Nairobi city since 2015. Through paintings and sculptures, he explores architectural and human forms as
both subject and metaphor to capture the lived realities of urban communities, resilience, fragility, and collective memory—while also reflecting on themes of society, politics and habitats, labor and social transformation.
By reimagining the textures and tensions of everyday life in the city, he aims to make silent conversations between people and the spaces they inhabit more visible.
He has had a Solo exhibition, Urban Shelters at Redhill Art Gallery, Nairobi, 2025. Group exhibitions include -
