Biography Joyce KuriaJoyce Kuria grew up in Bungoma, Western Kenya, but is currently based in the capital City – Nairobi. She comes from an artistic family, with older brother Richie Njogu Kuria already a popular multi media artist.
Joyce took a course in Fine Arts and Design at the Kenyatta University, later proceeding to join a mentorship program at Studio SoKu, where she got to interact with various artists that influenced her style.
Her process often begins with sketches, which she develops into layered compositions, then adds watercolour and details it with ink. Joyce is inspired by local culture fused with a bit of retro-futurism and a bit of nostalgia. The gestures, colours and textures are aimed at making the illustrations feel alive, reflective and relatable.Joyce recently participated in “House of Kuria”, an exhibition at HOF Gallery, Nairobi, that incorporated artwork from 4 artists who are all related. She continues on an upward trajectory and is represented by Almasi Art Agency. Joyce will be featured in the upcoming shows at the agency’s gallery space in Diani.View Catalogue arrow_drop_down_circleMore Artists more
