Mika Obanda
Professionally, he has been a full time artist for the last three years after he met Adam Masava. Adam has mentored countless artists under the umbrella of his Mukuru Arts Collective, and after seeing Mika’s first eggshell mosaic pieces, encouraged him to continue exploring the style and grow his craft.
In his artwork, he has worked on different mediums. Eggshells in mosaic, in sculpture, maize fibre in mosaic, nylon paper in quilling among others, as he pushes the boundaries of mixed media compositions and recycles materials. Theme wise, he tries to show appreciation through his work for the community he lives in by capturing the various emotions and activities in his immediate environment. In 2021, he was recognised as one of the most promising upcoming artists and got a special mention from the competition judges in the annual Manjano art exhibition.
