YOUNG MASTER IN THE MAKING
07 MARCH 2025
Aged just 25, Zimbabwean painter Carrel Kumbirai is an outlier. Where many take years to master realism and proportions, Carrel waves his paintbrush like a wand through his exceptional pieces.

His ability to recreate images of wildlife in great detail is remarkable, especially when you take his tender age into consideration. His favourite subject is the African Wild Dog, an animal Carrel admires for its tenacity and endurance.
The African Wild Dog as depicted by Carrel
Born in Bhuhera – Zimbabwe in the year 2000, his passion for art grew from the age of 6 when he was enrolled at Cecil John Rhodes Primary School. This was a key turning point in his life as this is when he discovered he had a natural talent for art.

During his High School days, Carrel, through his interactions with other talented students, elevated his skills. He was mentored by well-known and seasoned artists in Zimbabwe, an influence that can be seen in his pieces.
Carrel settled into his own art studio in 2019. He did not learn his art in a formal setting, but gained a lot of insights from working alongside his friends and mentors who were already in the profession.
The artist is passionate about sharing these gems of the African wild with the world and through Almasi Art Agency, he will be taking on commissions for his artwork. The intense gaze of a lioness on the prowl
