A LESSON IN FINE AFRICAN ART

On the 13th of September, we had the privilege of holding Almasi Art Agency’s very first art class where we welcomed Tradewinds International Academy to the gallery space.
The free class involved 13 students aged 12. They were taught about Fine African art; how it is created, the techniques, subjects and themes used. They were also taken through the intricacies of curating shows and fine art management.
The art tour was in keeping with their syllabus, which revolved around defining art through the utopian and dystopian lens and identifying pieces that outrightly sought to relay movement.
An introduction was made to all the art and artist taking part in the AfrIcan Tales exhibition, 8 in total from three countries, representing various forms of art which included paintings, sculptures, limited edition prints and photographs.
An open-book quiz then followed with questions asked to cover what the students had learnt.
This exercise was undertaken to bring practicality to theoretical art classes and to enrich the future generation of artists, art managers, collectors and patrons with knowledge about the field.
We are grateful to Tradewinds International School for facilitating this as the gallery looks to keep giving back to the local community in Diani Beach through free fine African art education.
